I have to say, i agree with the points that she has brought forward regarding the malaysian public transport system. As much as i hate to say it, i reckon,it would be an insult to the ACT(Australian Capital Territory) if i were to compare the public system here to the one back home. I am pretty sure, that the Malaysian government knows how the public system works here, or at least, if they are REALLY oblivious, i reckon, they should at least have the slightest idea on how it works here. Buses actually have time table,(which mind you, are being followed, and not just for the sake of a 'show/gaya') and it's being run by the government. There are concession cards for students, pensioners and even those who fall under the 'adults' category. Also, like what Ms. Leong had suggested, there is a lane, specially for buses, hence, buses are not caught in traffic like the others and so, they can make it on time, and meet the time that has been scheduled,in the timetables. In other words, the public transport here is indeed reliable. The only fault i see in this system is that, there's only one fare per ride, no matter if you're only getting off at the next stop, or at the other end of the town. Other than that, everything is seems to be almost perfect, i would say. They have even got sits allocated for the disable and racks for the bicycles.(in case if a cyclist decides to take a bus)

That being said, another 'interesting' headline which caught my eyes was this, "to wear or not to wear the songkok'..OMG...i never knew this was such a life treating issue that the whole nation had to became aware off!!!!!!!!!!!! when i read that, all i could thing of was the word, 'RIDICULOUS'...that's it...why is that even an issue???????? it was in the matter regarding some prestiges event in which the Sultan of Johor would be attending...and the issue here was if the assemblymen were to wear songkok as a sign of respect for the sultan or not...people, really...just because the country is dominated by muslims, doesn't mean that, everything official that is being carried on, need to follow their code and conducts.(why do we even bother calling ourselves a democratic country then????) ..if it was a muslim event, fair enough..but this, it is just the opening ceremony of Johors' legislative assembly...if one(especially if he's a non-muslim) decides not to wear the songkok, i really cannot see where he is going wrong....

and of course, there's the issue of the oil hike.this one too...it just goes to prove the stupidity of the government, and how wrong they are in making whatever decisions that they claim to be, 'for the good of the people'. yea, so there is a world wide hike on price, but does a country which produces and exports oil, have to increase the price of oil by more than 50cents(at the most) a liter????

owh well, there's really nothing much to say here that the government doesnt already know...i am pretty sure the government knows what's going on in the minds of the people, but the thing that i am not sure of, is why the government is not planning to do anything about it...well, one might say that they have some 'great plans' in mind...but mind you, plans involving building some mighty mosque, or a second bridge or even, 'beautifying the streets with some fancy lamp post' is not going to do the people any good.

Pictures...

I know it has been ages since i've updated my blog...so, since i'm still being rather tied up with other stuff, i decided to just upload a few photos of events going on in my life...not all..but some..haha...and definitely, in these photos..i reckon i look good!!! EXAMS...and that is indeed one GOOD excuse, i reckon...MY EXAM'S OVER!!!! but yeah, it's not like i study 24/7...no where near there..I've been going to the library (Chifley Library!) heaps to prepare of the exams, but the problem is....MY FRIENDS ARE THERE TOO!!hehe...well, yes, they definitely make my day but they also make it difficult for me to study!*this is me blaming others for my own mistake* Being girls, while discussing Economics, we would end up talking bout which groups in facebook we joined the previous night. (Yes, i have indeed succumbed to facebook). But undoubtedly, we do get some work done...I mean it would defeat the whole purpose of us going to the library if we don't get anything done!

Like i said, i have been up to many other things besides just studying...i went to watch Pirates of the Caribbean 3 last month, with Jess, Georgia, Cindy, Denen, Zainab, Pok, Michelle, Jeff and Kevin(Alissa was celebrating her dad's birthday, so she couldn't make it)...that movie was good..i laughed my head off!!! and of course, i was the one laughing the most and probably the loudest! Even the part where Shrek comes out during the Greater Union advert, i laughed!(this was before the movie actually started and mind you, that advert was SO lame). After the movie, we went for dinner at Verve...oh yeah, it was SO cold that night, and every time we talked, there was condensation...and me being REALLY jakun, was like, " Guys, look!" and I'd open my mouth and there would be condensation.....the funniest part was when Jess, Denen and i were like, " Ok guys, let's do it all together". Denen was suppose to count to 3 before we'd open our mouths but he only got to 2 when we burst out laughing! LOL...that was funny...

On the 30th, it was Sher Reen's birthday...my good old friend, Manja, organized a surprise birthday party for her...more like a birthday barbecue...I didn't know there were SO many first year Malaysians here in ANU..ok, i have a confession to make...*this part has been edited due to how silly i was*...

The next event was jess' surprise birthday party....I blew a balloon for Jess...well, it's not like i've never blown a balloon before but...well, it IS my first balloon here in Canberra AND it was meant to be for Jess and so, it was special...and so YES,i was indeed obsessed with it...i was like, "Guys, the balloon needs to be in the picture as well!" LOL...but sadly, that balloon didn't have a very long life...Kevin punctured it while it was in Denen's hands....so, i blame both of them for the loss of my beloved balloon for Jess....hmph!

Hmm...what else....oh yes, once again, i'm in the unemployed category...yes, i have no work now...the lady who was managing the Muffin Break in Belconnen(where i worked) sold the franchise, and since i was just a casual worker, i didn't seem to be much of an asset to them, and so, i have no job now..mind you, i didn't get fired!-it's different!-so, yeah, i'm now once again, on the look for new jobs...and on monday, i have 2 interviews...wish me luck guys!!!!

Tonight Georgia and Alissa are going out partying....and they're going to get drunk...LOL...they were talking bout it all week! I'm not joining them cause tomorrow i've got to wake up early and bake Jess a cake...we're having lunch at her place tomorrow, celebrating her belated birthday...and so, i decided to bake her a cake...we'll see how that goes...HEY PEOPLE...I BAKE OK!!! i remember baking NJ her birthday cake, and although initially people like Hanaa doubted my baking skills, in the end..they admitted it was pretty good!!! Don't deny that now, Hanaa! and yes, i also baked muffins for my Inti friends, although there was a time where i baked brownies and it turned out looking more like a cake than a brownie...but the bottom line and the most important point is that..IT WAS GOOD!!!

There's always a first time.

Ok...so, i've started working!!!Next semester i'm hoping to move out of my aunts' place to live on campus..I would also like to pay for my own living..and for that, i NEED to work... I'm now working at this place called Muffin Break...as the name goes...it's a place which sells muffin...something like Secret Recipe, only thing, we specialize in muffins instead of cakes..So, What do i do??? Let's see...i make wraps..on my first day(Friday. 4th May) the wraps that i made didn't turn out very well...i had one of those wraps which i made and didn't turn out well for lunch..yesterday was my second day..and i'm proud to say that i have improved...all the wraps that i made yesterday were simply perfecto! On the very first day i was thought how to operate the register, but i'm still yet to learn how to make the drinks. (By the way, did you know they had babycinno?-as in an extremely small cup of cappuccino) The best part is yet to come...i've worked for 2 days now which comes up to 13 hours or so(i'm planning to work 20 hours) and i still do not know how much is my pay!!! Silly me, yes i am indeed aware of it. My uniform?- there's this orange-gy top which says muffin break on the sleeves and 'GREAT COFFEE' at the back. We wear black pants and black shoes.

Talking about shoes, today i went to Kmart(something like say, Jaya Jusco or Parkson) with the intentions of getting myself a pair of comfortable black shoes for work(i've been using my aunts'). In the end, at the cashier, i found myself swiping my EFTPOS card for $85!! How?
1. A pair of black shoes for work - $40
2. A pair of black boots - $ 15(it was actually $30 but Kmart was having 50% off for the second pair of shoes)
3. A pair of winter shoes - $15
4. Face scrub - $8
5. Chocolates to be sent home.

I've finally owned my very first pair of HEELS..and that too, a pair of boots!!!! and definitely, there would be more to come....see, Latha is becoming more...GURLY..
*laughs with covering her mouth!*

The busy city..

with li ann...in a rush...explains the bad hair...

Akram, me and Sherreen with the Opera House as the background..

Alright people, due to high demand and as promised, this is my story bout the trip i had to Sydney.

My second week of holidays were mainly spent in Sydney. I was there from Monday till Thursday. It all started when Manja actually invited me to join them on their trip to Melbourne. In the beginning it sounded really tempting as i would have been able to meet Sarah and Tania as well, but then, due to some certain circumstances and late notices, i decided to go to Sydney instead and meet up with Li Ann whom i have not met in the past...umm..5 years?

Anyway ya, so i and Akram left Canberra at 9am on Monday and reached Sydney somewhere bout 12.30pm. I then followed the orders from Jen(Li Ann's sister) and took the train from Central to Chatswood. Li Ann met me at the station and then we walked back to her place. It's a nice place i have to say, feels very Homy-it's their home after all. There was this curry-ish chicken in the fridge and we heated that up and had it for lunch...considering the fact that it was her brother, Kenny, who had cooked it, it tasted really good. We then had just talked till Jen came back. By that time, Li Ann was tired so she went to her room to take a nap. I had Jen to entertain me on the piano. OMG..this girl is SO bloody talented! All you need to tell her is the title of the song you want, and if she knows it or even, if you can just sing it to her, she'll be able to play it for you...boy, wouldn't Ms Lim be proud to have a student like that?!LOL. By then, it was dinner time, and so we decided to order pizza-Jen had printed out the most faded voucher ever!-all for the sake of saving ink!LOL. While having dinner, we watched Gilmore Girls season 1...and by the time we decided to stop, it was 4am and we were half way done with it! Mind you, initially Li Ann was so against the idea of watching that so called -dumb-show-on-mother-daugher, yet she sat through the whole way.

The next day, i met up with one of my all-time favourite nenek, Justin and his sisters. I can't recall when was the last time i met him..but i have to admit, it was really nice of him to take me on a tour around the city, although we spent, say, half the time, rushing back to that government building so that he wouldn't miss his turn to get his driver's licence translated!(He was number 70 and when we FIRST went there they were attending to number 40-something-so we decided to go for a short walk, and when we returned, it was bout 50-something,so we went out once again. On our THIRD return,it was at 65(the nenek guessed it right!) and so we hung out there till he was done before going to The Rocks) Later in the evening, we met up with Li Ann and went for a walk to China Town where Li Ann decided to grab a bite at Bread-Story, as irrelevant this may seem, when we entered the shop, the cashier was talking to her friend, saying something like, "I didn't know he was from Malaysia" and oh yeah, she had the -LAs..LOL.Anyway, we then went to watch Namesake. I reckon it was a good movie, although personally i felt that it was rather slow moving in the beginning. Li Ann and i were commenting about the movie there and then and i felt kinda bad for Justin who was sitting next to me and had to put up with our remarks. We had pop corns and coke and chocolateS...for dinner, with a rather full stomach, we had Italian. If you think that, that was the end of the day, oh boy, you're so wrong...we had more Gilmore Girls..and then,we called it a night...it was somewhere at 6am then!

I was suppose to meet up with Akram and Sherreen at 12pm but i was so exhausted and also, malas LA, so, I postponed the meeting to 6pm. I met up with Sherreen at the Queen Victoria Building and we sempat go in and take pictures while waiting for Akram who didn't know how to find his way out from Town's Hall station. After that, guided by Sherreen, we went and had dinner at the darling habour. I had McD for the first time in Australia!!!!-they don't have chilli sauce and their meat is smaller than their burgers!! After that, we went to The Rocks and then to the Opera House. The view at night was amazing...We didn't have much time though for Sherreen had to catch the 9.50pm bus..so, she and i were on a mission, to reach there on time for her to catch the bus...we were practically running....after sending her off, i went my way to Towns Hall and caught the train to Chatswood. I was suppose to meet the Wongs for hot chocolate at a nearby cafe but Li Ann being the pemalas she is, told me that to 'tapau' the hot chocs. So, when i got back, we drank our hot chocolates and had more Gilmore Girls...this time, i slept off on the couch.

I left for Central the next afternoon at bout 3.10pm to be on time to catch the 4pm bus back to Canberra. That was the end of my 4 days holiday in Sydney. A few really apparent differences between Canberra and Sydney is of course, the amount of cars on the road in both states. In Canberra it would be so difficult to see cars on the road especially at night but in Sydney, it is so difficult to not see a car on the road! Also, in Canberra it's rather ridiculous to walk around in sleeveless even during the day but in Sydney, i could wear sleeveless at night!

Alright, that's it...it's indeed one long entry, and i'm getting rather malas already..so, yeah..that's it...i owe my holidays to the Wong family, the nenek, Sherreen and Akram. thanks a bunch guys! The next time i go to Sydney, i must visit the beaches! oh yeah, when i was with Justin at The Circular Quay, we saw the Saphire Princess and he suggested that next time, let's all the Malaccans go on a cruise one day....so, people, till that day comes, SAVE MONEY!!!!!

Who do you blame?

I know i'm suppose to write bout my awesome trip to Sydney, but i decided to put that on hold until i get the pictures.Anyway, these days, when i turn on CNN they're talking bout the Virginia Tech massacre, then i change to BBC and yet, it's the same thing, i turn on Sky News and yes people, it's the same news, no surprise there ha?!

I KNOW that this is a tragedy..yes, i feel bad not only for the victims family but also the killer's. I mean, look, with all these 33 lives gone, someone has lost their child, another would have either lost their brother/sister and the list goes on.... I don't know if it's just ME, but i'm starting to think that they're just making a whole big deal of this matter and i reckon, it's all because it happened in The States. What if that happened in Malaysia? Would you still have people like Dr.Phil going for several interviews and would it be featured on the Larry King show? You could point out the fact that, say, when Tsunami hit Asia back in 2004(or was it 2003?), it was another tragedy which took the peoples heart and made as big of an impact as this recent massacre. The thing is, the Tsunami incident caused more than just ONE country a loss.....so, i reckon, it deserved to make the news for a few weeks.

The recent mass murder happened in The States and only in The States. I'm not saying that people of other nation should be oblivious to what's happening there, but i personally feel that parading the whole story on air for one week now, is a little too much. Is it really necessary for us to watch how they mourn the loss of their beloved ones? If i was in The States, i would have taken a very keen interest in the matter, but the thing is, i'm not, so, i don't have that much of an interest to how they are going about with the mourning.

Another thing i would like to point out is that, this is not the FIRST time for such an incident to take place in The States. If i recall, there were several times when people just walk into schools and put the bullet to someones head and there has been quite a number of politicians who have been murdered and these goes way back in time.

You would think that the government would have been smart enough to know that perhaps, if they change their laws on the rights to owning a gun, then, just maybe, people wouldn't be able to walk around freely with a gun in their hands, would they? What is so difficult about changing the law anyway? If you need to change the constitution, just come up with a referendum and i reckon, the society would agree with changing the laws on this one, for their own safety, or at least, for their children. But guess what, the other day, if i'm not mistaken i was watching CNN and the guy said that they(the big people of US) are yet to bring up the matter....and it has something to do with politics...

So, who do you blame for all these tragedies? The people with the gun or the people who allows them to have the gun?

The first week...

My two weeks holiday is finally coming to an end.Besides the fact that i have to get up early once again and rush to get the bus to uni, this also means that, i have 2 group assignments for INFS(foundation of information systems) due on the 2nd week back and one individual business assignment due the following week.

I feel like i have taken this break for granted. Initially, i thought that 2 weeks of holiday was a long time and i was thinking i could get heaps of work then, but now, well lets just put it this way, i did get some work done.

Before the holidays, i planned to go through my economics and statistics notes during the break. I am proud to say that i have indeed gone through them. Today, i decided to do my next economics tute questions, and that was when i realized that i actually couldn't do the questions without having to look at the lecture notes. I mean, if i had gone through my notes thoroughly, like what i assumed i had, i should have been able to answer the questions without having to refer back to the notes. Hence, there's absolutely NOTHING to gloat about for claiming that i have gone through the notes.

Let's do a post-mortem of my holiday, shall we?Well, hmmm...Friday, as in Good Friday..i woke up rather late that morning due to the late night i had the previous day. Frankly, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday were spent going through my work. I had lots to catch up with. Being a morning person, i spent most of my morning going through my work and once afternoon came, it was more of leisure time and once the sun has set( that would be around 6.00pm!), i would just be too lazy to do any work as it gets colder and the bed starts to look so much more inviting than the desk!

I had made plans to meet up with Jess, Alissa and Gerogia on Tuesday to do Statistics. We were at Alissa's place from 9am to 4pm. That should have given us ample of time to complete most of the sections in Stats, but know what? we only got up to 2 pages! yup. The rest of the time, was simply spent on yakking. Before leaving back to Italy, Alissa's grandma had made pasta sauce, so we had pasta for lunch and we had the bread Georgia's dad had baked for Easter. We then went for a walk to Jess's place and had banana muffin there. That just pushed the limit.LOL. We were repleted. So, yeah, that was Tuesday.Oh yeah, people here do not know who MLTR is!! can you believe that?!

I woke up early on Wednesday because i was suppose to go for my weekly swimming with Alissa but unfortunately, Alissa woke up to find that she had lost her voice and so, swimming was canceled. Later in the afternoon, i went with Jess to Uni for our first group discussion on the INFS presentation. It's mainly about the blind using the Internet. I have to say, that first round was indeed fruitful, to me at least, it gave a better idea on what was needed to be done. We had to go back and research on the difference between a website which does not discriminate the blind and one which does.

I woke up at 8am on Thursday and made sure the house was in a good condition, as in, it was not messy and things like that. It was Economics day today and i had invited them over to have the discussion at my aunt's place(i stay with her). Jess came bout 10 past 9am and soon after Georgia turned up. Alissa had to do some last minute shopping for she was leaving to visit her grandparents the next day and so, she arrived at half past 10a. Until she arrived, we were just talking. Well, we didn't get that far anyway with economics when we decided it was time to cook lunch. I cooked them fried rice, and by the time lunch was over, there was absolutely nothing left in the wok!. A simple yet tasty meal( this is not me, self-praising, it's the feed back i got!). Danen was texting with Jess and he happened to be in the city, so we had him over for lunch as well. We then continued chatting(Jess had to leave for work) and i have to say,it's just so very interesting, listening to Danen and Georgia talk. I gain a lot from just listening to their conversations. After Danen left, we finally got to work and we actually finished chapter 6!!!- so much more productive than the Stats discussion.

I had to go back to Uni on Friday for INFS group discussion for both the assignment, as well as the presentation. We are almost done with the presentation. As for the assignment, we now roughly know what we are suppose to have for our kiosk.-that's the project, to come up with a kiosk which enables people to download music, videos and etc. We need to state the hardware and software needed and stuff like that-honestly, i can't wait to be over and done with for this subject!

Saturday and Sunday was rest day. I did get a little of economics done, but that was just it. I was getting excited for my Sydney trip.

So, yeah, that was how i practically spent my first week of holiday. I better go and get some Stats done now and will write more about my Sydney trip in my next entry. Till then....

A night out in Canberra

Yesterday, for the first time since i got here(that would be more than 2 months now), i had a late night out with friends. Jess and Alissa were going out with their friends and so, they invited me to join them (how sweet of them!) Jess was working late that night, so they picked me up at bout 11pm and we went to Dickson. It was freezing outside-13'C! We met up with Georgia and another friend of theirs, umm...i know his name starts with a D...but that's bout it...(i really do have problem with remembering names!) We then went to this bar..i think it's called Trinity. That D-guy bought each of us a drink(nice guy!) and we sat down for a chat. Somehow we started talking bout the life style in Asia. Last year, Gerogia was in Vietnam and Jess was in Japan, that D-guy is Sri Lankan and has visited Asia a lot i suppose, thus, they roughly have an idea of what living in Asia is like, from all the bargains to the bribery and the whole drama on High School Musical. Georgia then mentioned that, when she was in Vietnam, the people there had a habit of using 'think' and 'maybe' in a sentence. For example, "i think...maybe...no." and i was like, hey, i think do that a lot too. It's just an Asian thingy i suppose, whereby, we try our best to please everyone, so, if we wanna say no to someone, we try to do it, in the very best way we can, and that would perhaps mean to use 'think' and 'maybe' in the same sentence.

After Trinity, we headed for Civic and joined the whole lot of people at Academic. The rules here are relatively more rigid than the ones in Malaysia. I don't recall us(bhar, calvin,xn, and the Penang-ites) having to show our ID cards in Penang. Anyway, i had to carry my passport around-well, i had the D-guy to keep it in his pocket for safety. Back to the main story, i think Academic had reached its full capacity and so, there was a long queue. Alissa, being the eager one, cut the line and so, we didn't have to wait THAT long. After a while, Jess said she needed to get back, so we walked her back to her car and then like Alissa said,"let's walk aimlessly",we walked aimlessly and finally came to Mooseheads....We were there for just a while and then left for another club...i'm not too sure of the name, but i have to say, among all the 3 places we went to, that was the best, because they played R&B and Pop Music which we could actually sing along to. It was bout 4.45am that we finally headed back to the car. On the way, we saw a fight which never reached the climax!-like there were only pushes and holding backs...no punches and kicking-like the ones you see in bollywood movies.LOL.

It was a great night out...and oh yeah, the final bit..the bit which made our night...while walking back to the car(D-guy dropped us off) we saw this lady sleeping under her car-well, she wasn't exactly sleeping, because she answered us(good Samaritans-according to her) when we asked her if she was fine. She was tired and would have loved to sleep in the car but small problem-her bf had the keys..

Last night was simply awesome. I owe the night to Jess and Alissa mainly, for inviting me along. It's not easy being in a place where you don't know many people. Besides, i'm living off campus, so, i don't mix much with the other International students. I depend on Manja for that. Anyhow, i had a great time last night being with them and meeting their friends...they're really nice people and i'm grateful for meeting them for they make me feel welcomed...and most importantly, comfortable here.

Where do YOU origin from?

If someone were to ask you, where do you origin from, do you state your country of birth or do you state the country of your heritage?

Yesterday i was chatting with this dude, i THINK his name is Parvin. Anyway, the name is of no importance. This dude, holds an American passport and yet gets all mad when you call him an American. He has NEVER lived in the States(he was there for bout a month or so). If i got my facts right, he spent most of his years in Indonesia. Oh yeah, another fact, he's Indian. As in, Indian BY RACE, like dearest, ME.

When i first met him(not yesterday, when this particular conversation took place), i asked him where he was from and he replied saying that, he's INDIAN BUT HE HAS NEVER LIVED IN INDIA!(hey dude, i'm Indian as well, and my whole life was spent in Malaysia!). Then yesterday, we were talking and he said that his country of origin is India.(LIKE HOW ON EARTH?!) I mean, when one asks you for YOUR COUNTRY OF ORIGIN, don't you state the country you were born? For me, I'm Malaysian, because i hold a Malaysian passport AND Malaysia also happens to be the place I origin from. I was BORN there. My PARENTS were both born there. If i'm not mistaken i think my grandparents too(I think they were the first generation to be born there) When i pointed that out to him, he mentioned that in most cases, it's always Malaysians and Singaporeans(Indians) who wouldn't claim India to be their country of origin.

So today, i asked Jen. Jen holds an Australian passport but she says she origins from Sri Lanka because she was BORN THERE. I asked her, what if you were born in Australia, she said, then her place of origin would be Australia! Siew Lyn, a Chinese by blood, but she origins from India. She was born there and she holds an Indian passport.

Dude, must all Indians origin from INDIA?? Likewise, must all Chinese origin from CHINA?? I have NEVER denied that i am INDIAN...but i deny that my place of origin would be INDIA..not because i'm very PROUD to call myself a MALAYSIAN(geee, i bet people like Hanaa will be saying, "LATHA?? HELL NO!"), not because i grew up there but because i was BORN there. If at all, i were to give up my Malaysian passport and become a citizen of another country, my country of origin would still be Malaysia!!

so. people, what do you guys think? Do you state your country of origin based on your heritage or the place where you were born? or is it just a Malaysian thingy to not admit India as our place of origin?

Changes..ain't that bad!

You know, yesterday i was really upset with my elema(aunty) and i wrote an entry to release my frustration. But today, things changed. I felt more comfortable today and so, i deleted my previous entry. I didn't delete it just because things were different today compared to what they were yesterday. I did that because i felt really stupid in my entry. I felt i was being bloody childish like how i was back then in primary school, and trust me, those days, i WAS childish- don't even bother going there! The point is, when you're mad, EVERYTHING would seem wrong. No matter how much of sense the other person tries to knock into you, if you're mad, nothing is right...not even you! I admit, i am a sensitive person, and i tend to take many things personally and make a great big deal out of them. So i guess that has to change. It's not like my brain could just yell at me saying, "LATHA, YOU'RE BEING AN ASS!!!". Hey, i gotta learn it MYSELF and unfortunately, that takes time and hopefully, i haven't got that high of a self-esteem to think that i'm Nearly Ms. Perfect! Talking bout changes, i once use to say that i HATE changes. Changes just makes things different and sometimes, or most of the times, more uncomfortable. When i was still in KYS, i remember having this conversation with NJ on how we would change when we leave school and we may not be as close as were and things like that.
Yes, we change. We change according to the people around us and we change to be the person we think is the best, with or without realising it. Yesterday i had a chat with Manja and i told him that i felt comfortable with him and to me, he hasn't changed, but to him, he has. He told me the same thing, how he felt comfortable talking to me and that he thinks i haven't changed, but i KNOW, that i have. I have indeed changed. At that point it hit me, NJ was only right bout the part where we would change and we might not be as close as we were. There was however one thing that she missed out on. Let's see, let me put it this way, i was never really THAT close to Manja. Well, i knew his 'stuff' and he knew mine, but we never REALLY were close friends to get to know each other. However, i have to say, things have changed for the better now. Manja is one of my closest friend now. I can talk even crappy stuff with him and it can go on, and on. At that point it hit me, things may have changed but when old friends get together, no matter how much we have changed, we will still have lots to share. I now feel that perhaps the Hoot-hoots are no longer as close as we were last year, but i am sure that the next time we meet, we will still be able to laugh our heads and be the hoot-hoots we were once. Know why? Mainly because i felt the same way bout The Gang early last year, yet they are still the people whom i feel very comfortable being with, although we have all changed. Another perfect example will be the Wun Chiak. That guy has changed a lot!!-he has a gf now-who could guess?-anyway, i met him, after 5 long years, early last year and we were still able to chat and have breakfast like good old friends. Yes, we may have lost contact, but, it's just the fact that once upon a time, we were great pals that makes us feel very comfortable even now. That's why, i would love to meet up with my friends like Li Ann, Camie(that girl is SO busy, at least i got to catch up with the others) and of course Diane. I know they would all have changed, heck, i myself have changed, but i just wanna catch up with them and be able to talk to them like good old buddies!

FOOD!!

Today's a public holiday here. It's Canberra Day, and far as it concern me, it just means another day off!! yeapie...then again, it's a Monday and so the only class i missed would be Information System which starts at 4pm! Anyway, today, for the very first time, i cooked a balance meal all by myself...and on top of that, i had friends over. Well, initially, i invited six of them but only 2 were brave enough to turn up.Michelle had to babysit her brothers, Jen's a vegetarian because Easter's coming up, Georgia has family gathering and Jess had to do assignment with friends. So, only Sher reun and my faithful buddy Manja turned up. I had a good time all together. I hope the other two are with me. I cooked tom yam prawns (sher reun fnished most of it as i don't eat prawns and Manja gets rashes when he eats them), kang kung belacan(well, it was a lil over cooked but when eating it with the other dishes, it tasted just fine, except that i coudn't taste the belacan) and we also had tandoori chicken(well, after marinating, i just had to leave it in the oven, so that was easy job). We then chatted and watched tv, and of course, lunch wouldn't have been completed if we didn't have the ice-cream and chocolate! so ya, i would say, for a first timer, i think i did well. And oh yeah, i now know how to bake a marble cake!I'm feeling hungry now, i should go grab something. Later!

KYS in memory

I still remember the time when Hanaa’s new Motorola phone fell into the toilet and the ‘rescue team’ was trying to retrieve it but to no avail. And of course, the time when we started forming THE GANG…all thanks to our warden. How we would all be the last ones to wake up and so, the last ones to leave the dorm and remember the time when I brought the toaster? We would have bread with nutella spread for breakfast, and that beat the dining hall’s ‘mee’!
The first and last time I went up the water-tank was during the holidays when we were having our extra classes in form 3. I went there with NJ, Emy and Sofia, and boy! What a sight that was!!! One angle, there’s the field, the other, the highway. I wonder why that place is prohibited…oh yeah, SAFETY measures!
Sports day in a boarding school is VERY different. The pressure is really felt here and people even take it as a personal issue. House-ism is very strong in a boarding school. I felt this the most when I was in the last year. I remember Bendol(Razak) cheering for Rahman and how the Husseinians got all annoyed and irritated. I also remember that moment when I thought that Hussein was going to win, and when Koyot and I went to see Mr. Rama he said the best words he has ever said to me…that we’ve won. I remember the other Rahmanians who had no idea of our victory jumping with joy and shedding tears of happiness. I remember being carried as well. That feeling was worth another 5 years in KYS! Wining the sports day was all that mattered, we could lose all the other events including the swimming championship and yet, still be called winners. There was also the Orchestra tours, which we all looked forward to at the beginning of every year. The tour to Thailand was the best of all, that was also when I got to know Falah. Oh yeah, and the talent time competitions. God, I miss dancing!!! I loved the dance we performed in 2004, the Me Against the Music remix by Britney. That was a very unique dance if you ask me and I simply loved the way we ended the dance. Not that I didn’t enjoy Ap Tum, but that dance in 2004, was simply different.
I suppose I had most of the fun in form 5, although that was the year which I was suppose to be on my best behaviour and be studying. That was the year when I first went for a night walk. The first time I sneaked out was with Sofia and Iqa. It was drizzling but we still made our way past the guard and then to the Great Hall where we were nearly caught??!! I can’t remember that part, but I clearly recall that on our way back to the dorm, the guard saw us and the next thing we knew, Cikgu Wati came for an inspection. Luck was on our side, for she didn’t find any evidence! The next time I sneaked out was with Ida, Nj, and fafa. This time, it was more adventurous for we were chased by DOGS!!haha. we had to spend a night in the bm room and after breakfast, we had to go back to the great hall to look for ida’s mobile which fell while we were on the run! There was also all the sleepless nights which we spent talking, and laughing. We were a family.
After SPM, we had a dinner. That was the last time we had dinner together. Everyone was dressed up. That was the dinner which every KYS student anticipated as soon as they become a fifth former. Alas, here’s something I really regret. I regret the fact that I was sitting in the same table with him but neither of us uttered a single word to each other. Not even a hello or a bye. He was a very good friend. A brilliant guy. Too brilliant that i always felt dumb and small when talking to him. It was sad that when i left school, we were no longer close but now, i'm glad we're still friends.Other than that, I suppose everything else was near perfect. Like I said in my previous entry, I did have my share of fun.

To regret or not to??

I’ve never liked regretting. I believe that one should NEVER regret whatever he has done for behind every mistake, there would be a lesson learnt. However, I’m afraid that I might be in denial just to live up to this believe of mine.
Up till now, I sometimes wonder if going to KYS was the best thing for me. I know that whatever it is, I can’t rewrite the past, but if I was given the chance to, would I still want be known as a KYSer or would I rather go to St David’s? Looking at my brother, being so happy in St. David’s and getting himself involved in activities which I never had a chance to participate in, I can’t help but think, that maybe, just maybe, i might have made a big mistake. That’s when I start reminding myself of my own believe that I should never regret whatever I have done. Don’t get me wrong, KYS wanted what was best for its students. Everything had to be done there and then, according to what the superiors(especially after Mr.Maidin) thought was BEST for us students and I have to say, some of the rules were just plain SILLY!! Lights off at 11pm(during Mole-zuin’s) even at prep??!! Gee!! I guess as teenagers we are indeed rebellious and we do not like changes especially those coming from the people we are definitely not fond of. Then again, I did indeed have my share of fun in KYS which my brother would never have in his whole life. I had the opportunity to live in a dormitory and experience boarding school life like not many others would have. After all, KYS is a private boarding school, which, if you ask me, is WAY better (in all ways) than the government ones. So, i guess, the bottom line is, as an economist would say, going to KYS had the least opportunity cost, thus i shouldn't regret the decision made for it was indeed the best one.

Giving a shot!

I've never actually liked writing..yea, i did keep a journal back then in secondary school but it only took me a few months perhaps before i gave it up. I did have an online-journal before this one, but what can i say...that just followed the ones before it into the drain. It's just that, writing has never been my kind of thingy.

I'm just not good at writing stuff..i mean, i write stuff as and when i want to, and this normally happens either when i'm really happy or i'm really upset. I would just write down my thoughts at that moment of time and then tear the paper away, so that no other being gets their filthy hands on it.

However, now that i'm away from my comfort zone,(not that i'm feeling uncomfortable here or anything, but..nothing beats HOME! ) and all my friends, i suppose this would be the best way to keep them up to date with what's going on in my life. Besides, most of them have got their own blogs and reading their entries, makes me wanna have one of my own..and so, i decided to give this a shot. Here it is, SWEET AND SOUR, by yours trully!
